Richmond-based professional muralist Emily Herr brings her masterful skills to add another massive and transcendental work to Downtown Roanoke’s growing outdoor gallery.
I know that this space is going to be a public park and my thinking for the mural design in relation to that is how I think about any mural design that I work on:
It’s for the people that are going to see it every day, and then it’s also for the people that are going to see it every once in a while, and then it’s also for the people that will visit and maybe see it once, so I’m trying to make it legible and interpretable on several different levels.
I want it to feel welcoming, I want it to feel like a sense of arrival, we’re right across from the Amtrak landing platform for the passenger train. This is really visible to that and I hope that it gives a sense of welcoming and creating that sense of place.
